USGTF Southwest Region director Bruce Sims hosted the region championship this past May 14-15, and decided that as long as he was putting on the event, he might as well win it, too. Sims fired rounds of 77-67 – 144 to cruise to a 6-stroke victory over Ken Kim. Leading  by one after the first round, Sims played spectacular golf in distancing himself from his closest pursuers.

Sim fired rounds of 78-72 – 150 to finish as runner-up, while D.B. Merrill took home third with 78-80 – 158. Thirteen players teed it up at Ridgeview Ranch in Plano, Texas. According to Sims, “The tournament was a big success this year. The weather was very good and that was one reason we moved it to May. We had our dinner Friday night and talked about promoting the game. We are looking at having another tournament in August in Houston. I want to say a big ‘thank you’ for all that participated.”
