“PRO” FILE – TOURING PROFESSIONAL DANNY WILLETT

He wasn’t mentioned as one of the possible contenders as CBS began its broadcast coverage on Masters Sunday, but by the end of the day, he was the name on everyone’s mind.  Danny Willett captured his first major championship this past April, but he was already a prominent player on the international stage long before his breakthrough victory.

Willett won the 2007 English Amateur and was the #1 ranked amateur in the world early in 2008.  He played collegiate golf at Jacksonville State University in Alabama for two years, and turned pro in May 2008.  Success didn’t take long for Willett to achieve as he earned his European Tour card for the 2009 season.  His first victory came at the 2012 BMW International, the first of four European Tour wins prior to capturing the Masters.  Prior to winning the green jacket, Willett was ranked #12 in the world and was the runner up in the Race to Dubai in 2015.

It was originally reported that Willett planned to take membership on the U.S. tour for 2016, but instead he will follow through with his original plan to play in America in 2017.  His next appearance in the U.S. will be in this month’s Players championship in Florida.
