LYLE RECAPTURES WORLD HICKORY TITLE

Sandy Lyle admitted he has not been playing up to standard this year, but you would not have suspected that based on his play at the 12th World Hickory Open at Panmure Golf Club in Scotland in October. Lyle bested the field of 130 golfers with rounds of 67-71 to capture his second title. He also won the tournament when it was played here in 2014.

“I’m delighted to have won my fourth major,” quipped Lyle, winner of the 1985 Open and the 1988 Masters and many other titles. “It’s been a fantastic few days at Panmure with a great championship and great golf. While I regard this as a bit of fun, winning the title again is the best thing I’ve done this year,” admitted Lyle.

“Once again, everyone involved in the World Hickory Open, whether as an organizer or a competitor, has had a fantastic time in Carnoustie Country,” said Lionel Freedman, chair of the World Hickory Open, as he presented Lyle with his trophy. “The enjoyment on everyone’s faces at the prize giving is testament to what fun it is to play hickory golf, especially when added to the fun is the opportunity to play hickory golf on such a great golf course.”
