“PRO” Files – Touring Professional Graham DeLaet

Canada has had a long and storied history of golf professionals, from Moe Norman and George Knudson to Masters winner Mike Weir. Many observers believe that the next Canadian golfer who will make a big splash on the international scene is Graham DeLaet. DeLaet was born in Weyburn, Saskatchewan, and later grew up in Moose Jaw Рplaces not normally associated with producing professional golfers. He also attended college at Boise State University, again not exactly known as a golf powerhouse, although fellow professional golfer Troy Merritt did attend there, as well.

After turning professional in 2007, DeLaet was the rookie of the year on the Canadian Tour that season, and was the tour’s player of the year in 2009. He qualified for the PGA Tour for the 2010 season, and since then he has amassed 20 top-10 and three runner-up finishes. He’s one of the longest hitters in the game and ranked 13th in scoring average in 2014, mainly on the strength of his approach game, where he ranked 3rd in greens in regulation.

DeLaet has too much game to stay out of the winners circle for long, and look for him to accomplish that feat in 2015.
