Royal and Ancient Golf Club to Admit Women Members

After 260 years, the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews has voted to permit women to join for the first time.  The R&A recognized that its previous position was untenable given the changing times, and a resounding 85% of the membership voted “aye” in allowing women.  The move follows on the heels of the Augusta National Golf Club admitting Condoleezza Rice and Darla Moore, and the Royal Yacht Squadron on the Isle of Wight accepting women for membership after nearly two centuries.  The move by the R&A is seen by most as a positive step in symbolizing golf as a game for all, and the USGTF applauds the R&A for this latest development.
